San Juan, Puerto Rico

The reformed community here consists of a few Christian Reformed churches and some congregations that have joined the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.  During an exploratory trip with MTW personnel in 2004, the reformed seminary expressed an interest in having Joe come to teach.  (Joe’s mother is from Puerto Rico so he’s had an interest in the island for many years.)  At the same time, the i-lead program was searching for a cross-cultural location for its first missionary training center and began exploring Puerto Rico for that purpose.  That first group of leaders and mentors began arriving in 2007. Current Ministry:

Joe is teaching Old Testament in various short-term programs and study centers.  The i-lead program has begun some seminary courses, neighborhood cell groups and language study.

The Team

Joe and Bev Fitzpatrick and children have been in P.R. since May 2006 doing theological education.  The reformed seminary that was the initial draw to PR has closed and is possibly being reorganized under the OPC so Joe has been teaching in churches of other denominations around the island.
