Cultural and Ministry Context
Lima lies on the desert coast of Peru with warm, sunny days in the summer and cool, overcast days in the winter. As the capital of Peru, it is also the country's largest city. Much of this population is due to the immigration of poor people from the country's other two geographic areas (Andes mountains and Amazon jungle), looking for a better life, job opportunities, and education for their children. This immigration also produces a multi-cultural society. In Lima, one can partake of the wide variety of crafts, food, and music that have their origins in the coast, mountains, and jungles. | We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!

Peru: Puerta Maldonado
-
type: construction, evangelism, vacation Bible school
-
level: 4
-
medical/political climate:
Puerto Maldonado is in the middle of a huge area of rain forest and is the last main city in Peru before the Brazilian border. There are almost no mainline denominations present in Puerto Maldonado. Most of the Christian groups there are poorly-educated charismatic, leaving the evangelistic witness very weak. There are both mestizos (Spanish main language) and indigenous jungle groups in the area. Our long-range strategy is to have a Mestizo church that would have a strong outreach to the indigenous groups. Teams will be constructing a new church building and developing community outreach programs which may include sharing the gospel door-to-door, VBS, sports camps, or any other type of creative outreach.
