Northern Mexico
In the early 20th century, major U.S. denominations geographically divided responsibilities for evangelism and church planting in Mexico. Presbyterians assumed responsibility for southern Mexico, which limited the growth of Presbyterian churches in the north. As a result, with 3000 National Presbyterian Churches in Mexico, only 100 are in Northern Mexico. The MTW Mexico work centered in Monterrey started in 1995 with one church plant.

Current Ministry: The team is currently working in twenty-five projects, six of those under contracts, with the others in varying stages of preparation. Activities include coordination and oversight of summer construction, VBS, teaching English as a second language, "medical brigades" (medical missions performed by Mexican nationals and U.S. short-term teams, coupled with evangelism), hosting interns, creative evangelism, working with youth, children's programs and an orphanage. A key focus for the team is the training of nationals through a theological institute for Northern Mexico.
Future Ministry: The MTW team will promote church-multiplication movements by planting Reformed churches in the 26 major cities in Northern Mexico, utilizing MTW church planters and partnerships, emphasizing theological education and training. We pray that these efforts will result in societal transformation and the sending of Mexican missionaries into the world.

Current Needs
Church-planter mentors needed to invest five to ten years helping to establish Reformed and covenantal church plants. University workers needed for two years to long-term to help with university ministries. Teaching English workers needed for one month to long-term in order to build relationships and create evangelistic opportunities. Language school required for mentors and university workers. |
Cultural and Ministry Context
The wide diversity of backgrounds and social status presents many challenges for church planting in Northern Mexico. Monterrey is the financial capital of Mexico and the center of the work. A blend of old and new, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stands next to street vendors in traditional Mexican dress. A growing middle class provides increased possibilities for church planting. Proximity to the United States makes for cultures that are neither Mexican nor American. | We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!

This city is the strategic center of Northern Mexico for the church-planting movement. God's work is led by a team of Mexican leaders and MTW missionaries, who are working together in a great vision to reach this vast region of the country. God has opened up opportunities to work in established churches as well as in new church-planting projects. The gifts and talents of short-term groups will be used to reach and impact people living in the target areas through activities of construction, outreach (to youth, children, and families), discipleship, leader development, teaching English, camps, community service, educational interchange, and Christian fellowship.

medical/political climate: intermediate risk
MTW is partnering with Isaiah 55 Deaf Ministries to develop and evangelize the communities of Reynosa primarily through the education of the deaf population, who are largely left unattended. Through the leadership of Nolton (Nono) Beale, I55 plans to reach the deaf primarily through the construction of small schools which can accommodate 30-40 students. These schools will be scattered throughout the city so that they are able to serve the greater population without forcing students to find transportation. Mexican Sign Language (MSL) will be used to give the children a language, which will open the doors for learning the traditional subjects, and more importantly the good news of Jesus Christ.

Mission to the World's church-planting work in San Fernando supports the only evangelical church plant for hundreds of miles around. This primarily agricultural and fishing industry community is the only major town between the US border and Ciudad Victoria. Short-term groups visiting the "Cristo es el Camino" church will do VBS, creative evangelism, teach English and do construction. Previous groups have increased community awareness and presented workshops for teachers and families dealing with ADHD and ADD, as well as the new Evangelism Explosion for Children program. Housing is in a family-run hotel within walking distance of the current church building.
