Northern Mexico

In the early 20th century, major U.S. denominations geographically divided responsibilities for evangelism and church planting in Mexico. Presbyterians assumed responsibility for southern Mexico, which limited the growth of Presbyterian churches in the north. As a result, with 3000 National Presbyterian Churches in Mexico, only 100 are in Northern Mexico.  The MTW Mexico work centered in Monterrey started in 1995 with one church plant.

Current Ministry:
The team is currently working in twenty-five projects, six of those under contracts, with the others in varying stages of preparation. Activities include coordination and oversight of summer construction, VBS, teaching English as a second language, "medical brigades" (medical missions performed by Mexican nationals and U.S. short-term teams, coupled with evangelism), hosting interns, creative evangelism, working with youth, children's programs and an orphanage.  A key focus for the team is the training of nationals through a theological institute for Northern Mexico.

Future Ministry: The MTW team will promote church-multiplication movements by planting Reformed churches in the 26 major cities in Northern Mexico, utilizing MTW church planters and partnerships, emphasizing theological education and training.  We pray that these efforts will result in societal transformation and the sending of Mexican missionaries into the world.
