Vina del Mar, Chile (and the Gran Valparaiso area)
Began in 1992 with an MTW church-planting team in the heart of one of Chile’s most God-resistant areas. Most of the initial contacts resulting in the Reñaca Presbyterian Church were made through conversational English classes. With all of the original team members in other areas, the Viña Team is now in its “third generation” of missionaries and has recently started a second church plant in downtown Viña del Mar. The missionaries’ vision is to establish a strong Presbyterian denomination that will become a sending church. The Viña Team’s vision is to establish a presbytery in the greater Valparaíso area, and to partner with other Presbyterian and Reformed denominations and congregations for mutual strength and encouragement.

Current Needs
Immediate opening for an ordained man to re-establish the university ministry, much like an RUF minister, but adapted to the university system in Chile. Also needed are young adults to serve in the university ministry. Social worker and other individuals with skills are wanted to help the disabled (Braille, sign language, adaptive computing, etc.). We are also interested in someone who could oversee teams that come down; help with administration concerns including Chile missionary websites and DVD’s; and promote the development of partnerships, both in the US and in Chile |
Cultural and Ministry Context
Viña del Mar is a modern coastal city about two hours from the capital city, Santiago. Viña is between two cities: Valparaíso (the port city and home of the Chilean Congress) and Reñaca (a residential and resort area). These three locations, along with Concon, Quilpué, and Villa Alemana make up a metropolitan region with over one million people known as Gran Valparaiso. Chileans are known as “the British of South America,” meaning they are more “reserved and proper” than the typical Latin American culture. Chile has one of the most stable governments and economies of Latin America. By all counts, Chile is fast becoming a first-world country with access to the latest telecommunications, medical care, and infrastructure. Those living in rural Chile travel to the urban areas for major medical needs.
| We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!
