Riga, Latvia
| This is a new MTW team which was formed after the request of the pastors of the Reformed Churches in Latvia to send missionaries. The Latvians have specially asked that initial ministries be to serve with the one church plant, help mentor seminary students, help with evangelistic outreach in the two Reformed Churches and teach and preach with the Evangelical Reformed Church of Lithuania, which is 451 years old but has only one ordained pastor. The churches in Latvia were started by Latvians who adopted Reformed theology through the teaching received at Baltic Reformed Theological Seminary in Riga. Three PCA churches have sent MTW summer teams to Latvia. |

Current Needs
People to help with evangelism in Latvia and preaching and teaching in Lithuania. |
Cultural and Ministry Context
Latvia and Lithuania are part of the Baltic region of Northern Europe. They are post-communist Russia controlled countries that gained their freedom in 1991 and joined the European Union in 2004. They have become westernized with many of the people speaking or learning English. The primary languages are Latvian and Lithuanian, but many speak Russian. About 30% of those living in Latvia are Russian. The average monthly income is approximately $1200 per month. Only 7% of the population attends religious services regularly. The main denominations are: 20% Roman Catholic, 20% Protestant (primarily Lutheran), 5% Russian Orthodox, 15% independent or unaffiliated, and 40% are not affiliated with a church. | We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!

Latvia (and Lithuania)
· type: evangelism, construction, vacation Bible school, adult discipleship
· level: 3
· medical/political climate: low risk
Three emerging Reformed churches have invited MTW to partner with them and mentor pastors and congregations in the birth of the Reformed denomination in Riga. Opportunities for ministry include vacation Bible school, evangelism, discipling of young adults, ESL, youth outreach, and theological education/mentoring. Teams will stay at a hotel in Riga. Also, teams are needed to go to Lithuania to work with the historic Evangelical Reformed Church as a mission outreach. Opportunities for ministry are with small churches (like core groups) and would include teaching basic Bible studies to adults, evangelism outreach actives and children's ministries. Teams will stay in a hotel in Vilnius or another town where they minister.
