| In August of 1997, one couple arrived and began helping at the local orphanage. Within one month a children's club was formed, and two months later an adult Bible study began to meet in their home. Simultaneously, that couple began working with Covenant College's studies abroad program at Trnava University. In 1998, two short-term workers arrived and began working in several local high school English classes. An overwhelming response from students resulted in the need to rent a building to foster a more personal environment for handling the frequently asked questions deemed inappropriate for us to answer in the classrooms. Nearly all of our outreach is being conducted from "The Building". The original Bible study in the home developed into our church plant which currently rents a room at The Building. |

Current Needs
Our immediate needs are for certified English (ESL) teachers able to make a two-year or, ideally, a long-term commitment. Openings also exist for several highly relational workers who want to be part of a close, praying team, who enjoy meeting people and developing relationships that lead to bringing the gospel and it’s wisdom to bear on those they are coming into contact with. We need those who would be willing to go into existing high school English classes and simply get to know students through offering basic assistance to the teachers, befriending them and their students, getting to know their friends, and letting God develop the relationships that will lead to sharing the gospel. We are unusually creative and flexible here, willing to consider how the talents God has gifted you with can be put to work here for his glory. A solid grasp of the gospel in your own life is essential. |
Cultural and Ministry Context
Slovakia was a communist country until 1989. Someone said, "You can cut down the tree, but the roots are still there." Getting at the "roots" of this country is a challenge. Slovakia is a predominantly Catholic country in transition. Predictably, most citizens still consider themselves Catholic and, therefore, Christians. Sadly, the average person considers non-Catholics like us to be a “cult.” This requires a sensitive, persistently loving kind of living among Slovaks. However, there is a growing generational gap between the youth of today and their parents. Old ways are being challenged and the lure of materialism beckons. The country itself is absolutely beautiful possessing a rich variety of nature, which is the envy of its neighbors. Slovakia shares borders with Austria, Czech Republic,,Poland, Hungary, and the Ukraine. Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia is located 30min. from Vienna, 4hrs. from Prague, 5hrs. from Krakow and Salzburg, and 2 hrs. from Budapest (and 8 hrs. from Venice, Italy). | We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!
For more information, contact Recruitment at 1-800-270-9932 or go@mtw.org, or fill out our online Interest Form.
