Brasov, Romania
The Hartman family arrived in Brasov in August of 2005 to launch a new church-planting team in central Romania. In 2006, the first teammates joined them. They began by studying the language and culture of Romania in order to start laying a solid foundation for future ministry. We currently have 18 members on our team, laboring among nationals in three city ministries.
|
Current Ministry: Our primary activities thus far in Romania have been language study, research, prayer regarding the context and strategy for the church-planting effort, and country-wide networking. In addition, we have hosted and participated in several national conferences with a view toward identifying Reformed national leaders. We have begun translating and publishing Reformed articles which address the true character of the gospel. We've also been engaged in evangelism and discipleship through a growing network of contacts, and a Wednesday evening Bible study, which has merged into a Sunday evening gathering for worship and discipleship.
Future Ministry: Our team launched a classical school, Kingstone Academy, which will initially serve the growing number of children on our team, and in time may be made available to a broader range of expatriate and Romanian students as well. We are praying and working toward the following during the next year: accelerating our translation and publishing ministry; launching our ESL program; mobilizing a Reformed leadership training center in Brasov; and researching an economic development training center.

Cultural and Ministry Context
Romania is a country of 23 million in a state of massive transition. It looks back on a half-century of communism, from which it was delivered in 1989, and looks forward to European Union accession in 2007. Eighty-seven percent of its people are Orthodox, claiming to be Christians, but few have any idea of a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. The evangelical church is small and struggling, largely because the gospel it preaches is largely man-centered and works-driven. Romania is in desperate need of a reformation, for which we are faithfully praying.
| We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!
