MTW responded in 1990 to an invitation to help plant churches in the newly-formed Evangelical Presbyterian Church in England and Wales (EPCEW). Team members have planted churches in Chelmsford, Cheltenham, and Solihull (Birmingham). In the years MTW has been involved the presbytery has grown from four to 10 churches and the number of British ministers has grown from two to 11.
Team's Website: For a list of all church sites, visit www.epcew.org.uk |
Current Ministries: The church plant in Cheltenham was turned over to a British pastor in the summer of 2008. The Solihull (Birmingham area) church plant has been transferred to a British church planter. Two new church planting ministries are being started: one in London and the other in Gateshead (Newcastle). The team is in transition as new members are anticipated in 2009 and 2010.
Future Ministry: The Presbytery of the EPCEW wants to see more new churches started and has designated 5 cities as primary targets. To do that we need additional church-planting families. |

Current Needs
Church planters who can build an indigenous team to work in new areas; evangelists to work with existing EPCEW churches; youth and university ministers/workers to work with existing churches and/or new church plants; PCA interns whose presbyteries will allow them to fulfill their requirements in cooperation with the EPCEW. |
Cultural and Ministry Context
Although the United Kingdom has a special relationship with North America, the culture is significantly different, e.g. a core value in English society is "to protect your privacy and my own." The country has a state church that most people avoid. Every year fewer people identify themselves as "Christian" in various polls or in the government census. The climate is mild. The living conditions are modern, but living space is more limited in this island nation. (England and Wales together is about the size of Georgia but has about 5 ˝ times as many people). Forget the stereotypes about bland cooking—variety and quality have advanced greatly in the past 25 years. | We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!
