Zlin, Czech Republic
Since 1996, MTW missionaries in the Czech Republic have served with the Reformed Church, a new denomination. To help the Czech Reformed Christians, MTW formed a provisional presbytery and organized a church in Zlín. The team has published books, hosted conferences, and has started theological education with the goal of having a Reformed influence in the country. The team initially assisted the Brethren Church with evangelism and church planting. Website: www.mtwczech.org

Current Ministry: Two missionary couples serve with the Reformed Church in Zlín. As a means of outreach, we teach English and host summer English camps. Each year we sponsor the translating and publishing of books and other works . In the fall of 2004 we started a branch of Martin Bucer Seminary, a German Reformed seminary, in Zlín.
Future Ministry: Three English camps will be held in the summer of 2009 and one in the winter of 2009-2010. |

Cultural Context
The Czech Republic is in former Eastern Europe, but is becoming more and more westernized, and joined the European Union in May 2004. Many tourists visit historic Prague each year. The average monthly income is approximately $1000 per month. The country was spiritually oppressed for 350 years, and about 60% of people profess to be atheists or agnostics. Several recent articles in international papers have reported that the Czech Republic is the most atheistic country in Europe. People generally show indifference toward Christians and are ignorant about the Bible. Liberalism has affected most Protestant churches. Most people seem to trust in their own ability and strength, and see capitalism and democracy as their hope for greater personal affluence and autonomy. | We are excited about your interest in a long-term commitment to missions service.
MTW uses a team-based approach to missions. For that reason, we actively seek missionaries from a variety of backgrounds—ordained or unordained, singles and families, men and women—and with many different ministry skills and interests.
Though MTW's first priority is church planting, we also have missionaries working in a variety of other ministries such as teaching, medicine, community development, and administration.
We currently have one- and two-year and long-term ministry opportunities in over 50 different countries around the world. You are needed on the mission field!

Czech Republic, Zlin
- type: teaching ESL
- level: 3
- medical/political climate: low risk
Zlin is a city of about 80,000. Considering that only about 0.05% (400) of the citizens attend an evangelical church, it is clear there is a great need for more evangelical churches.
This project involves teaching ESL at a summer camp, alongside the MTW church-planting team, to children, youth, college-age students, and adults. Our desire and thrust is to build bridges through relationships, so that our sharing of the gospel will be credible and motivated by love for Czech people. Most who attend our classes and camps are non-Christians, nominal Christians, or are from a Roman Catholic background. These individuals primarily come because of their practical need for English . This leads to opportunities to build meaningful relationships which, we have seen, leads to opportunities to share the gospel so they listen. Team members can help begin and develop these relationships. A team size of eight to twelve is ideal for this particular project.
